Green island ficus is one of south Florida’s most popular ground hedges, with no doubt this plant has become the most common ground hedge or ground cover for your yard, to line your walls or to circle your palm trees and ornamental trees. There is much reason for this and its not only for its looks, unlike its distant cousin “green island ficus” is not be confused with “ficus benjamina” because they are very different. The green island ficus does not catch white fly and is pest free, so there are no worries here with this hedge. Its dark evergreen color and glossy leaves makes it a gorgeous accent for under any tree or any bed or island you would like to line with a beautiful ground cover in your yard project. Green island ficus is mostly sold 3 gallon since the idea is to keep short to the ground but it can also be purchased in 7-gallon containers, and ever 15-gallon pots at about the height of 3 feet since they don’t grow much taller. Not usually used as a privacy hedge but more as a friendly hedge the green island ficus is extremely popular from Coral Gables to Palm Beach and you are sure to have seen it plenty around. |
